Starting school is a big step for children and their families. Our school runs orientation and transition activities to help your child feel confident and prepared for Kindergarten and to support you as parents and carers.

All families are invited to attend a school tour to help you and your child feel prepared for starting school. Meet our friendly staff, explore our school facilities and see what makes our school a great place to learn.

Before your child starts Kindergarten

Story time in our school library

When? Friday 14 August and Friday 11 September

Time? 10.00am - 10.45am

Where? Epping North PS Library

Join us for a story session in our school library! These sessions give your child the chance to meet new friends, become familiar with the school environment, and enjoy a fun and engaging book experience. Children attend with a parent or caregiver, making the session a positive introduction to school life.

Enrolment interview

Once enrolled, all families are invited to meet with our principal. This is a time to share:

• important information about your child
• medical conditions or allergies
• learning support needs
• family circumstances that may affect your child’s start

This information helps us to support a smooth and successful start to school. You will receive an email to book in a time once your enrolment application is completed.

Kindergarten orientation and information sessions

When? Tuesday 3 November and Tuesday 10 November

Time? 9.30am - 10.30am

All children are encouraged to attend both of our orientation sessions, held in our kindergarten classrooms. These sessions help children:

• meet teachers and classmates
• explore classrooms and playgrounds
• practise simple routines

Parents and carers are asked to remain at school to join important information sessions in readiness for your child starting school. If interpreters are required for you to access these information sessions, please let the school office know.

Teddy Bears' Picnic

When? Friday 4 December

Time? 9.30am - 10.30am

Children are invited to bring their favourite teddy bear to our Teddy Bears’ Picnic, a fun and engaging session designed to help them settle into school life. They will enjoy stories, games and activities alongside their peers and current kindergarten students. Parents and caregivers attend with their children and school will provide light refreshments.

Getting ready at home

You can help your child get ready by encouraging independence and routines. Try:

• packing and unpacking their school bag
• dressing themselves and practising hygiene
• following simple routines at home.

What to expect in Kindergarten

Learning and development

Kindergarten follows the NSW curriculum. Children build early skills in literacy, numeracy, creative arts, health and physical activity, science and technology. Learning through play also supports social, emotional and academic growth.

Daily routines

Children learn routines such as morning arrival, snack and lunch breaks, lining up, using bubblers and moving safely around the school. Teachers guide children as they settle in, but practising at home helps.

Best Start Assessment

At the start of the year, all Kindergarten children take part in the Best Start Assessment(opens in new window). This is a friendly, one-on-one activity where teachers learn about your child’s literacy and numeracy skills. It is not a test and needs no preparation.
